Shoes

Road cycling shoes have a tough job to do. They are the connection between rider and bike - they have to transfer all the power and be comfortable to wear. Because of this, road bike shoes combine stiff soles with soft uppers. Methods of fastening shoes range from 'old school' laces, ratchet or velcro through to the boa dial system. Most shoes work with most popular pedal / cleat systems.

Mountain bike shoes fall into two categories depending on your preferred pedal type. Clipless shoes (known as SPDs) feature tough and stiff nylon or carbon soles with a recess for the cleat set into the base of the shoe. Flat shoes more resemble skate shoes and feature soles with extra grip (to grip flat pedals) with full toe and heel protection. You can fasten mountain bike shoes with a dial, ratchet, velcro or laces. It’s important that your shoes don’t pinch or cause pressure on the instep of your foot, so ensure you choose a fastening style that suits the shape of your foot. Whether you prefer SPD or flats, you can find MTB cycling shoes that best transfer your power to the pedals here at High on Bikes
